LANGUAGE VALUE Journal
SPECIAL ISSUE: MULTIMODALITY IN ELT
This issue addresses the topic of multimodality understood as the
combination of various communicative modes (sound, images such as
graphs or pictures, video, written text, transcribed speech, etc.)
within one text. Understanding multimodal text implies understanding
the interaction among all its components in their different formats.
The challenge for linguists working in the field of Language Teaching
implies both theoretical research on the multimodal text structure,
and on the possible ways to adapt and integrate these texts into the
design of pedagogical material.
Language Value was created to promote interdisciplinary research of
the English language in an online, flexible and dynamic context. The
editors of this peer-reviewed journal welcome contributions from
researchers and scholars working in multimodality from diverse
standpoints. The main purpose of the present issue is to show how
multimodal discourse is used for the teaching/learning of the English
language and culture, as well as to illustrate how meaning is created
in multimodal texts. Proposals for contributions are welcome on the
following topics:
- Multimodal corpora: design and implementation in the classroom
- Evaluation and usability of multimodal tools
- Multimodal pedagogies: language teaching and learning in multimodal
environments
- Multimodality in language acquisition
- Frameworks for multimodal discourse analysis: meaningful patterns
- Multimodal literacies and education
- Multimodality in the context of cyberliterature
- Storing multimodal data and the design of content linking devices
- The description of multimodal genres
