Essays will be accepted till September 30th, 2010.

For the first time, and as was agreed at the SAAS Assembly held at Barcelona during the 9th International SAAS Conference, Revista de Estudios Norteamericanos will publish a special number for its 14th volume (2009-2010). The theme proposed, in view of the recent occurences in the US and their global repercussion, was “Crisis and Catharsis in US Culture: From 1929 to 2009,” hoping to open up a space for the exchange of ideas on the concept of crisis and the transformations brought on by it through a crucial century in American history. The concepts of crisis and catharsis may be contemplated as affecting the whole of the nation or particular communities linked by gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political or religious issues, or even as affecting particular individuals, provided that the analysis sets the personal in a broader context. We welcome contributions that deal with this subject from any of the various perspectives that have been represented in this journal: literary criticism, cultural studies, gender studies, history, film studies, politics, sociology, anthropology and philosophy. We hope to include specially commissioned papers by reputed scholars as well as contributions from Americanists world-wide who may be interested in the subject.

Due to editorial reasons, as number 14 will appear as a double volume (2009-2010) a miscellaneous section will also be included, so contributions not dealing with the theme proposed will also be considered.
