ABSTRACT

This Round Table aims at tacking some of the prominent women voices who have contributed with their work in the fight against discrimination in the history of the United States of America.

We want to focus our attention on the key role that some representative figures have played on the basis of the Civil Rights Movement and its development in the U. S. nation and even, we would like to underline the projection that their labour has had not only in the United States but also over the world.

We are particularly interested in different perspectives that enhance the social struggle of some oppressed groups to be heard to get an egalitarian treatment in multi-ethnic societies, such as the American society. Besides, we are dealing with some women figures who are icons for all the ones who try to work to improve life conditions of discriminated groups. These outstanding women worked on different fields within the cultural and historical aspects in the 20th century American society. This is a tribute for the extraordinary women who worked hard on the Civil Rights Movement and who have become models of inspiration for our future generations.
