Guerrero Medina, Pilar, y Estela Martínez Jurado, eds., Where Grammar Meets Discourse: Functional and Cognitive Perspectives, Córdoba: Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Córdoba, 2006

The present book offers a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches to the interaction between grammar and discourse in spoken and written English. The contributions to this volume, most of which could be subsumed under the rubric of pragmalinguistics, are basically concerned with the functional and cognitive dimensions of language. Discourse Analysis, Conversation Analysis and Functional Stylistics become the main lines of research in the book. The interplay between lexico-grammatical, semantic and pragmatic factors is also a central concern in this collection of essays, where pragmatics seems to be the "all-encompassing framework within which semantics and syntax must be studied" (Dik 1997: 8).
