Shakespeare and Cervantes are our contemporaries. They not only anticipate the troubles and expectations of modern times but also share our present condition. In them we find attitudes and ideas that belong to our world. In their characters we recognise ourselves. Although they have been regarded as two of the greatest models of western literature, criticism has paid little attention to a study and analysis of those comparative and contrasting aspects that might bring a closer understanding of them. The present collection tries to shape a fresh comparative approach between Cervantes and Shakespeare, and to open up new discussions on the literary relationship of the two writers that will help us to know more about them.
